Liquid gold on Corvatsch
The Corvatsch mountain station at 3,303 metres above sea level is home to the highest single malt whisky distillery in the world.
Pascal Mittner and Rinaldo Willy – whisky connoisseurs and co-founders of ORMA – have been maturing their whisky at the Corvatsch mountain station for some time now. Whisky has also been distilled in the cellars of the mountain station since autumn 2020. The fact that the distillery is at 3,303 metres above sea level has a special influence on how the whisky distils. At this altitude, the distillation process takes place at around 10°C lower than it does at sea level. This allows the ORMA whisky to develop more flavours and greater complexity.
You can visit the whisky distillery – ORMA offers guided tours. While on the tour, you can also taste a drop or two of this exclusive drink.
